Our 2024-2025 season player review series continues with the University of Delaware men’s basketball team as the spotlight turns to senior guard Niels Lane.
Lane was second on the team in scoring this season, with 13.7 points per game.
The Delaware guard found his name on the scorecard often this season, recording double-digits in points in 27 games. He also netted six games where he posted over 20 points.
Lane scored his season-high of 24 points twice this season, the first time came on February 22nd versus Hofstra. He made 11 of his 20 shots and hit two of four tries from the three-point line.
The second time the UD senior recorded 24 points was on March 8th in the 79-62 CAA Quarterfinal win over Campbell. He made 11 of his 15 shots and hit both free throws (2-2).
Scoring wasn’t the only thing that had Lane on the stat sheet, as the New Jersey native had his eyes on the boards this season, recording two double-doubles.
Lane was a rebounding machine this year, landing second on the team with 4.4 rebounds per game.
The UD guard knew how to get his teammates involved in the action, landing second on the team in assists per game with 2.2. He had a season-high nine assists in the 92-75 win over the Misericordia Cougars on December 17th.
Lane also made his presence known on defense this season, landing third on the team in steals and blocks. He had 1.1 steals and 0.5 blocks per game this year.
The Delaware senior averaged 13.7 points per game, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 33 games.
