Wilmington University earns a sweep over Caldwell

The Wilmington University softball team swept the Caldwell University Cougars on Saturday with a 3-2 win in the first game. The Cats also picked up a 7-0 victory in the second match.

Game Recap GM 1:

Wilmington University takes home a 3-2 win!

The Wildcats lit the scoreboard first in this game when Senior catcher Bella Barnes slugged an RBI double to left center to give her team a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the fourth inning, Caldwell tied the game at one when they scored on a throwing error by WilmU’s center fielder.

Wilmington regained the lead in the bottom of the inning by scoring two runs on three hits to grab a 3-1 advantage.

Freshman Utility player Sydney Hatch started the scoring in the fourth by slapping an RBI double to left center.

Junior infielder Cassidy Zelano capped the inning off with an RBI single to give her team a 3-1 lead.

The Cougars would add a run in the sixth inning, but the Cats still hung on to win 3-2.

Pitching Recap:

Senior pitcher Kylee Gunkel went seven innings, gave up four hits, two runs, two earned runs, two walks, struck out eight, and earned the win.

Game Recap GM 2:

Wilmington University takes home a 7-0 win!

Sydney Hatch would get the Wildcats on the board first in this game when she pushed home a run with a Sac Fly to give her team a 1-0 edge in the opening inning.

Two innings later, Hatch would push home another run when she hit an RBI single to right field.

Senior outfielder Eve Serrato also slugged a two-run homer to left field in the third inning to give the team a 4-0 lead.

Fast forward to the sixth inning, where WilmU took a 7-0 advantage when senior outfielder Tristyn Stewart stole home, and then Bella Barnes hit a two-run homer to left field.

Pitching Recap:

Graduate student pitcher Delani Sheehan went seven innings, giving up four hits, five walks, striking out six, and earning the win.
