Three Home-Runs in Game 1 earn Wilmington University a split over Jefferson

The Wilmington University baseball team earned a split on Saturday versus the Jefferson University Rams. WilmU won the first game 5-2 and lost the second match 10-2.

Wilmington University takes home a 5-2 win!

The Wildcats would strike first in this game with sophomore outfielder/pitcher Brandon Grygo leading the top of the opening off with a solo home run to right field to give his team a 1-0 advantage.

A couple of innings later,  Graduate student infielder Josearmando Diaz hit a two-run single to center field to give WilmU a 3-0 edge.

Fast forward to the seventh inning, where senior infielder Nick Classie slugged a lead-off solo home run to push Wilmington’s lead to 4-0.

The homers kept coming for the Cats. In the top of the ninth, Senior outfielder/pitcher Shawn Edevane blasted the ball out of the park to extend his team’s lead to 5-0.

Jefferson scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, but WilmU held on to win 5-2.

Pitching Recap:

Wilmington University used three pitchers in the game, including sophomore pitcher/infielder Xavier Cortez, who pitched eight innings, gave up four hits, and one walk, struck 11 out, and earned the win./
