Wilmington University scores 21 runs in the sweep versus Jefferson

The Wilmington University softball team swept the Jefferson University Rams on Tuesday, with a 10-1 win in the first game. The Cats also picked up an 11-3 victory in the second match.

Game Recap GM 1:

Wilmington University holds a five-run lead at the end of the third inning.

The Wildcats started the game with a bang, as Senior outfielder Tristyn Stewart gave the team a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the opening by stealing home.

WilmU widened their lead in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs on three hits to push the score to 4-0.

Graduate student pitcher Delani Sheehan and Freshman pitcher/outfielder Maddie Vollmar each hit an RBI single in the inning.

Graduate student catcher Emma Zimmerman also pushed home a run with a Sac bunt in the second.

Senior outfielder Eve Serrato extended Wilmington’s advantage to five when she slugged a solo homer to left center.

The Wildcats take home a 10-1 win!

Wilmington expanded their cushion to ten runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when the team scored five runs on four hits and one error.

Tristyn Stewart started the scoring off in the inning with an RBI single up the middle.

A couple of plays later, freshman third baseman Haley Grygo pushed in a run, when she reached base on a fielder’s choice.

Senior catcher Bella Barnes came up to the plate next and slugged a three-run homer to left center to take the score to 10-0.

The Lions would score a run in the top of the fifth by WilmU still took home a dominating 10-1 win.

Delani Sheehan went five innings, gave up four hits, one run, two walks, struck out three, and earned the win.

Wilmington University leads by five runs in the third inning.

The Wildcats opened the first inning by scoring runs from a Sac Bunt and Sac Fly to grab a 2-0 edge.

WilmU pushed their advantage to five runs when they scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the third.

Freshman Utility player Sydney Hatch pushed in the first run of the inning when she reached first base on a walk.

Junior infielder Rylee Maloney stepped up to the plate next and smashed a two-run double down the right-field line.

Jefferson roared back in the top of the fourth by scoring three runs to slice the deficit to 5-3.

Wilmington would earn a run back in the bottom of the inning when Haley Grygo pushed home a run with a Sac Fly to take the score to 6-3.

The Cats would seal an 11-3 win in the bottom of the fifth inning when the team scored five on four hits and one error.

Freshman pitcher/infielder Olivia Hitchens started the scoring off in the fifth with an RBI single up the middle.

Maddie Vollmar pushed home a run when she reached base on a walk.

Haley Grygo recorded her fourth RBI of the game when she hit a three-run double down the left-field line to take the score to 11-3.

Senior pitcher Kylee Gunkel went 3.2 innings, gave up five hits, three runs, two earned runs, struck two out, and earned the win.

Freshman pitcher Karen Sickle went 1.1 innings, gave up zero runs, and earned the save.
