Wilmington University records a walk-off winner in sweep over Chestnut Hill

The Wilmington University baseball team earned a sweep on Sunday versus the Chestnut Hill College Griffins. WilmU won the first game 11-5 and took home the victory in the second match 8-7.

Game Recap GM1:

Wilmington University ties the game up at the end of the third inning.

Chestnut Hill would light up the scoreboard first in this game, as the team scored two runs on a triple down the right field line to take a 2-0 edge in the top of the second.

The Griffins’ edge would grow to three when the team scored a run on a single to right field.

WilmU would tie the game at three in the third when Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Chase Fleming and senior outfielder/pitcher Shawn Edevane, each had an RBI double in the inning. Graduate student infielder Josearmando Diaz would also push a run home with a Sac Fly.

The Wildcats take a two-run lead at the end of the sixth inning.

Chestnut Hill would regain the lead (5-3) in the top of the fourth when the team scored runs on a single and a double in the inning.

Wilmington pulled the deficit to one (5-4) in the bottom of the inning, when junior infielder Tyler Pirrung pushed home a run with a Sac Fly.

In the fifth inning, Senior infielder Nick Classie tied the game up at five with an RBI double to left center.

The Wildcats would grab a two-run advantage (7-5) in the bottom of the sixth when Pirrung and Josearmando Diaz, each hit an RBI single in the inning.

Wilmington University takes home an 11-5 win!

The Cats continued to expand their edge in the bottom of the seventh when Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Brandon Grygo slapped a single up the middle of the field to give his team an 8-5 lead.

In the eighth inning, WilmU added two more runs to their score to take home an 11-5 win over the Griffins.

Wilmington University used five pitchers in the game, including freshman pitcher/outfielder Zach Frame, who pitched 2.1 innings, had two walks, and earned the win.

Game Recap GM2:

Wilmington University holds a one-run lead at the end of the third inning.

Chestnut Hill would strike first in this game, as the team scored two runs on a single and an error in the opening inning to take a 2-0 edge.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Wildcats lit up the scoreboard when Josearmando Diaz scored on a wild pitch to slice the deficit to 2-1.

The Griffins pushed their advantage back to two (3-1) in the top of the third with a RBI single to left field.

Wilmington’s Tyler Pirrung gave his team a 4-3 with one swing in the bottom of the inning, with a three-run homer to right field.

WilmU trails by two runs at the end of the sixth inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, Chestnut Hill would tie the game up at four by getting a runner home on a wild pitch.

Senior outfielder Kory Pritchard broke the tie in the bottom of the inning, with an RBI single to center field to give the Cats a 5-4 lead.

The Griffins punched back in the sixth inning by scoring three runs on three hits and two errors to grab a 7-5 advantage.

Wilmington University takes home an 8-7 win!

All eyes were focused on the bottom of the seventh inning, where WilmU had one last chance to get a win, and they did just that.

The scoring in the inning started with Tyler Pirrung, who pushed home a run with a Sac Fly.

Chase Fleming would come up to the plate next, and he pushed home a runner when he reached base on a fielder’s choice.

Two plays later, Josearmando Diaz would hit a two-out, game-winning, walk-off RBI single to right field to give the Wildcats an 8-7 win!
