The Wilmington University softball team swept the Dominican University (N.Y.) Chargers on Saturday with a 2-0 win in the first game and an 8-0 victory in the second match.

Game Recap GM 1:
Wilmington University takes home a 2-0 win!
The Wildcats would get on the board first in this match, with Freshman pitcher/outfielder Maddie Vollmar pushing in a run with a sac bunt to take a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the opening inning.
Graduate student catcher Emma Zimmerman pushed WilmU’s lead to two runs in the next inning with an RBI double to right field.
The pitching would do the rest by only giving up one hit in the next five innings.
Pitching Recap:
Senior pitcher Kylee Gunkel went seven innings, gave up one hit, and three walks, struck out seven, and earned the win.
Game Recap GM 2:
Wilmington University leads by four runs after the third inning.
The first run of the game would come from a Sac Fly by WilmU’s Senior outfielder Eve Serrato to take the game to 1-0 in the opening inning.
Sophomore infielder Kylie Saienni pushed in a run for Wilmington in the second inning with a Sac Fly to extend her team’s edge to 2-0.
Three plays later, Maddie Vollmar slapped an RBI double to left field to cap the scoring in the second inning with a 3-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the third inning, Junior infielder Cassidy Zelano extended the Cats’ lead to four by pushing home a run with a ground out.
WilmU takes home an 8-0 win!
The Wildcats continued to pour on the runs as they scored two more runs (6-0) in the fourth with singles from Maddie Vollmar and senior catcher Bella Barnes.
Senior outfielder Tristyn Stewart expanded Wilmington’s edge to seven with an RBI single to left field.
WilmU scored one more run in the sixth inning to seal an 8-0 victory over the Chargers.
Pitching Recap:
Maddie Vollmar went three innings, two hits, and struck three batters out.
Graduate student pitcher Delani Sheehan went three innings, gave up one hit, one walk, and struck three batters out.
