The Wilmington University softball team swept the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning on Wednesday with a wild 14-13 win in the first game and an 8-2 victory in the second match.

Game Recap GM1:
Wilmington University leads by four runs at the end of the third inning.
Goldey-Beacom would strike first in this game, as they scored a run on an RBI single to right center to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the opening inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Senior outfielder Eve Serrato tied the game up at one when she hit an RBI single to right-center.
Two innings later, the Wildcats expanded their lead to 5-1 by scoring four runs on five hits.
Two of the four runs came from RBI singles from senior catcher Bella Barnes and senior outfielder Tristyn Stewart.
Freshman infielder Gracie Mabrey’s single pushed the other two runs home in the inning.
The Wildcats lead by five runs at the end of the fourth inning.
Eve Serrato pushed in her second RBI of the game in the fourth inning with a Sac Fly to give WilmU a 6-1 edge.
WilmU leads by four runs at the end of the fifth inning.
The Lightning came racing back in the top of the fifth inning by scoring six runs on five hits to grab a 7-6 advantage. A two-run double and two sac bunt happened in that scoring blitz.
After losing their lead, Wilmington University responded by scoring five runs on three hits and one error.
Junior infielder Cassidy Zelano started the scoring in the inning with an RBI double to left-center to tie the game at seven.
Graduate student catcher Emma Zimmerman would be up next and smacked an RBI single up the middle to give the Cats an 8-7 edge.
Three plays later, Eve Serrato posted her third RBI of the match when she pushed a run home after grounding out to the pitcher.
Bella Barnes capped off the scoring in the inning by hitting a two-run RBI single to left field to extend the team’s advantage to 11-7.
Wilmington University leads by five runs at the end of the sixth inning.
Goldey-Beacom would punch back in the top of the sixth inning with two RBI singles to slice the score to 11-9.
In the bottom of the inning, WilmU answered back with three runs on four hits to expand their lead to 14-9.
Cassidy Zelano started the scoring in the inning by pushing home her third RBI of the game with a two-run double to right center.
Three plays later, Freshman pitcher/outfielder Maddie Vollmar smoked a RBI double to left field to give her team a 14-9 lead.
WilmU takes home a 14-13 win!
The Lightning battled till the end, as the team scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, but the Wildcats still escaped with a 14-13 win.
Pitching Recap:
Wilmington University used three pitchers in the game, which included Graduate student pitcher Delani Sheehan, who went 5.1 innings, gave up nine hits, eight runs, seven earned runs, two walks, and struck one batter out.
Freshman pitcher Kasey Xenidis went 1.1 innings, gave up three hits, three runs, one earned run, one walk, and struck one batter out.

Wilmington University leads by five runs at the end of the fourth inning.
The Wildcats lit up the scoreboard first in this game with RBI Sac Bunts from Freshman third baseman Haley Grygo and Bella Barnes to take a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the opening inning.
Delani Sheehan added another run to the team’s lead in the second with a lead-off solo homer to right field to take the score to 3-0.
Gracie Mabrey pushed home a run in the third when she grounded out to first base to extend WilmU’s advantage to 4-0.
Freshman Utility player Sydney Hatch blasted another run home for Wilmington in the bottom of the fourth, with a lead-off homer to left center to expand the team’s lead to 5-0.
The Wildcats lead by seven runs at the end of the fifth.
Goldey-Beacom would score their first run of this game in the top of the fifth inning with a double to right center pulling the deficit to four runs (5-1).
Wilmington continued to add to their lead (8-1) in the bottom of the inning by scoring three runs on two hits.
The first run came on a wild pitch and then Sydney Hatch pushed in her third RBI of the day with a two-run double to center field.
Wilmington University takes home an 8-2 win!
In the top of the seventh inning, the Lightning added another run to their total with a solo homer but the Wildcats still took home an 8-2 win.
Pitching recap:
Senior pitcher Kylee Gunkel went seven innings, gave up six hits, two runs, two earned runs, one walk, struck out five, gave up one home run, and earned the win.
