The Wilmington University softball team earned a split versus the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday. WilmU lost the first game 6-5 and won the second 5-3.

Wilmington University trails by two runs at the end of the first inning.
Bridgeport lit up the scoreboard first in this matchup by stealing home and hitting an RBI single in the bottom of the opening inning to take a 2-0 edge.
In the top of the second inning, the Cats would tie the game up (2-2) with one hit, when Graduate student catcher Emma Zimmerman slapped a two-run single up the middle.
The Wildcats lead by one run after the third inning.
Wilmington’s bats continued to produce in the top of the third inning when the team scored two runs on three hits to grab a 4-2 advantage.
Freshman infielder Gracie Mabrey started the scoring off in the inning by pushing home a run with a sacrifice fly.
Junior infielder Cassidy Zelano stepped up to the plate next and hit an RBI single to right field to give her team a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Purple Knights inched closer to the lead with an RBI triple to pull the score to 4-3.
Wilmington takes home a 5-3 win!
Fast forward to the top of the seventh inning, where Gracie Mabrey slapped an RBI single to center field to seal a 5-3 victory for the Wildcats.
Pitching Recap:
Graduate student pitcher Delani Sheehan went seven innings, gave up six hits, three runs, three earned runs, five walks, struck out six, and earned the win.
