Wilmington University earns a split versus Indiana (Pa.) with a 6-5 win

The Wilmington University baseball team earned a split on Saturday versus the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks. WilmU lost the first game 10-6 and won the second match 6-5.

Game Recap:

Wilmington University leads by one run after the second inning.

Indiana (Pa.) would get on the board first in this matchup by hitting an RBI double to centerfield to take a 1-0 edge in the top of the first inning.

The Wildcats would grab the lead (2-1) at the bottom of the second when senior outfielder AJ Tropiano slugged a two-run homer to the left field.

The Wildcats trail by one run after the fifth inning.

Two innings later, the Crimson Hawks would tie the game at two with an RBI single to center field.

In the fifth inning, Indiana (Pa.) would regain the lead by scoring two runs with a single and a sacrifice fly.

WilmU would make some noise at the bottom of the inning when Sophomore catcher Kyle Lowman smoked a lead-off solo home run to the left-center to cut the deficit to 4-3.

WilmU takes home a 6-5 victory!

The Wildcats bats would be charged up in the bottom of the sixth, as the team scored three runs on three hits to take a 6-4 advantage.

Kyle Lowman knocked in his second RBI of the day by pushing home a runner with a single to right field.

Graduate student infielder Josearmando Diaz stepped up to the plate next and also hit an RBI single.

On the next play, Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Brandon Grygo sent a runner on home with a sacrifice fly.

The Crimson Hawks scored a run in the top of the seventh inning, but Wilmington held on to win 6-5.

Pitching Recap:

 Redshirt sophomore pitcher Tyler Reinert went 4.2 innings, gave up seven hits, four runs, four earned runs, two walks, and struck four batters out.

 Brandon Grygo went 2.1 innings, gave up one hit, one run, one earned run, struck out two, and earned the win.
