The University of Delaware women’s basketball team is moving on to the quarterfinals of the Coastal Athletic Association Tournament by defeating the UNC Wilmington Seahawks 71-55 on Thursday. The Hens will now play Charleston on Friday at 6 PM ET.
Senior forward Michelle Ojo led the team in scoring in the win with 18 points.
Three other Hens players scored in double digits: Senior forward Chloe Wilson (10), Sophomore center Ande’a Cherisier (11), and Tara Cousins (10).
UD had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, including points in the paint (32-26), fast-break points (9-8), turnovers (17-20), blocks (6-3), steals (9-7), assists (14-9), and rebounds (39-34).
The Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 46.7(28-60) and UNCW 34.5 (20-58). UD also bested the Seahawks from the three-point line, with the team shooting 25.0(3-12) and UNCW shooting 14.3 (2-14).

The game tied at 13 at the end of the first quarter.
March Madness tournament-level play was evident in this game, as the two exchanged the lead back and forth during the opening period to head into the second with the score tied at 13. Blue Hens Senior guards Rebecca Demeke and Ella Wanzer each drained a three-pointer in the quarter.
Delaware leads by four points at the end of the first half.
UD started the second quarter off by scoring four straight points to grab a 17-13 edge with 8:32 remaining in the first half.
UNCW came rushing back by outscoring the Hens 8-2 to take a 21-19 advantage with 4:30 left in the second.
The Blue Hens ended the first half on a high note by going on an 8-2 run to grab a 27-23 lead. Michelle Ojo and Chloe Wilson scored all eight points during that time.
The Hens lead by two points at the end of the third quarter.
UNCW came out in the early minutes of the second half, hitting buckets with ease. It went on a 7-0 run to take a 30-27 advantage with 8:34 left in the third.
UD punched back by scoring four straight points to grab a 31-30 edge with 7:18 remaining in the third quarter.
Michelle Ojo, junior guard Jiya Perry, and Ande’a Cherisier were the leaders down the stretch for the Hens in third, scoring 12 of the 18 points to give the team a 49-47 advantage heading into the fourth.
UD takes home a 71-55 victory!
The fourth quarter was all Blue Hens as the team outscored the Seahawks 22-8 to seal a 71-55 win and move on in the CAA Championship Tourney.
It was the Michelle Ojo, Tara Cousins, and senior guard Sydney Boone show in the quarter, with the trio scoring 18 of the team’s 22 points.
