Goldey-Beacom earns a split with 8-3 win over Ursuline College

On Thursday, the Goldey-Beacom College softball team earned a split with an 8-3 win over the Ursuline College Arrows and was defeated by Roosevelt University 6-2.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom holds a three-run lead at the end of the second inning.

The Lightning struck first in this game, with Junior outfielder Delaney Insinga hitting an RBI single in the top of the first inning to take the score to 1-0.

In the top of the second inning, Sophomore Utility player McKenna Frank was in the middle of a lot of action for the Bolts. First, she batted in a run (2-0) with a single. Then, two plays later, she scored on an error from Ursuline’s shortstop to give her team a 3-0 edge.

The Lightning’s lead shrinks to one after the end of the fifth inning.

The Arrows would strike back in the bottom of the fifth inning when the team scored two runs through a single and a batter reaching base on a fielder’s choice to slice the deficit to 3-2.

GBC takes home an 8-3 win!

Goldey-Beacom punched back in the top of the sixth inning by scoring three runs with two hits and two errors to take a 6-2 advantage.

Senior Utility player Ariana Mirenda started the scoring in the inning with a two-run single. In the later part of the Lightning’s inning, she would later score on an error from Ursuline’s third baseman.

GBC scored two more runs in the seventh inning to extend their edge to 8-2.

The Arrows would score a run in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn’t to come back, as Goldey would take home an 8-3 win.

Pitching Recap:

Senior pitcher Caitlyn Burch went five innings, gave up four hits, two runs, two earned runs, two walks, three strikeouts, and earned the win.

Senior pitcher Morgan McLane went two innings, gave up two hits, one run, one earned run, and two strikeouts.
