The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team closes the season with an 86-64 victory over the Wilmington University Wildcats on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Katie Yoder led the team in scoring in the win with 18 points.
Three other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Senior guard Julie Kulesza (16), Junior guard Rory Ciszkowski (15), and Senior guard Julie McCarron (14).
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (50-28), points off of turnovers (30-16), fast-break points (29-4), bench points (21-8), assists (17-12), turnovers (18-20), and steals (15-9).
Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 50.8% (32-63) and Wilmington shooting 34.9% (22-63). GBC bested the Wildcats at the three-point line as the team shot 31.6% (6-19) and Wilmington 20.0%(5-25). Lightning was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 80.0%(16-20), and the Wildcats shot (15-22).

Goldey-Beacom leads by four at the end of the first quarter.
Wilmington University would come out on fire in the early minutes of the opening period by taking an 11-2 edge.
Seconds later, the Lightning started to warm up by going on a 13-3 run to grab a 15-14 advantage with 4:24 remaining in the first quarter. Rory Ciszkowski and Julie Kulesza led the charge by scoring seven of the 13 points.
In the next two minutes and 90 seconds, the game intensified with the score being tied three times, including at the 1:34 minute mark when Julie McCarron hit a layup to put the match at 20-20.
Goldey-Beacom would end the opening period on a good note by scoring four straight points to head into the second 24-20 lead.
The Lightning leads by five points at the end of the first half.
Sophomore guards Genesis Garcia and Katie Yoder took charge in the second quarter for GBC scoring 11 of the team’s 16 points to help the team take a 40-35 edge into halftime.
GBC takes a 17-point lead at the end of the third quarter.
It was the Julie Kulesza show in the third quarter, as she scored 13 of the team’s 27 points to help the Lightning extend their lead to 67-50 heading into the fourth. Kulesza made four of her six shots in the period.
Goldey-Beacom takes home an 86-64 win!
Rory Ciszkowski and Julie McCarron caused problems for the WilmU defense in the fourth as the duo scored 15 of the Lightning’s 19 points to seal a dominating 86-64 victory.
