The University of Delaware women’s basketball team recorded their 11th win of the season with a 71-62 victory over the Stony Brook Seawolves on Friday.
Sophomore center Ande’a Cherisier led the team in scoring in the win with 17 points. Cherisier also recorded a double-double in the game with 12 rebounds.
Senior guard Rebecca Demeke also scored in double-digits in the victory with 16 points.
UD had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included fast-break points (10-6), blocks (2-1), steals (6-3), and assists (17-10).
The Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 48.1 (26-54) and Stony Brook 35.6 (21-59). UD also bested the Seawolves from the three-point line, with the team shooting 54.5 (12-22) and Stony Brook shooting 27.8 (5-18).

Delaware leads by three at the end of the first quarter.
Stony Brook started the game off fast by jumping out to a 7-3 lead with 7:17 remaining in the opening period.
The Hens responded by scoring eight straight points to grab an 11-7 edge with 5:59 left in the quarter. Senior guards Rebecca Demeke and Sydney Boone each drained a three-pointer during this run.
Fast forward to the 1:51 minute mark, where Senior guard Ella Wanzer nailed a three-pointer to give UD an 18-15 advantage.
The Blue Hens scored three more points in the quarter to head into the second with a 21-18 lead.
The game is all tied at 30 at the end of the first half.
Stony Brook started the second quarter by outscoring Delaware 8-4 to take a 26-25 edge with 2:13 remaining in the first half.
UD punched back going on a 5-2 run to grab a 30-28 advantage with 1:14 left in the second. Ella Wanzer hit a three-point shot during this time.
The Seawolves would score the last points in the first half to tie the game up at 30.
UD leads by 13 at the end of the third quarter.
The Hens came out in the early minutes of the second half with a new pep in their step by going on a 17-6 run to take a 47-36 edge with 3:30 left in the third. Ande’a Cherisier and Rebecca Demeke gave the Stony Brook defense problems scoring 14 of the team’s 17 points.
Delaware added nine more points in the latter half of the third quarter to push their lead to 56-43 heading into the fourth.

The Seawolves sliced the Hens’ double-digit advantage to eight points in the fourth (68-60) by outscoring UD 17-12 with 3:24 left on the clock.
Junior guard Jiya Perry scored the last points for UD by hitting a three-pointer to seal a 71-62 win over Stony Brook.
