Goldey-Beacom extends winning streak to six with sweep over Lock Haven

On Tuesday, the Goldey-Beacom College softball team extended its winning streak to six games with a two-game sweep (3-2 & 5-4) of the Lock Haven Bald Eagles.

Game Recap GM1:

Goldey-Beacom leads by two runs runs at the end of the second inning.

The Lightning would get on the board first in this matchup, with Junior infielder Autumn Simpson smacking an RBI triple down the right-field line to give her team a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the opening inning.

Junior catcher/utility player  Emma Friel pushed the team’s lead to 2-0 in the second inning, with a RBI bunt single.

The Lightning takes home a 3-2 win!

Lock Haven tied the game up with one hit in the top of the fourth with a double to right center.

Goldey-Beacom broke the tie at the bottom of the inning, with Autumn Simpson getting her second RBI of the game by pushing in a run with a single up the middle to take the score to 3-2.

The Bolts pitching did the rest by only giving up one hit in the next three innings to seal a 3-2 win!

Pitching Recap:

Senior pitcher Wynter Radcliffe went four innings, gave up two hits, two runs, two earned runs, struck out three batters, hit two batters, and earned the win.

Junior pitcher Alesia Doctor closed the game by going three innings, giving up one hit, struck two batters out, and earned the save.

Goldey-Beacom trails by three runs at the end of the second inning.

The Lightning would be down fast in this game with Lock Haven pushing through three runs in the first two innings to take the score to 3-0.

GBC ties the game at three in the sixth inning.

Fast forward to the bottom of the sixth inning, where Goldey-Beacom scored three runs on four hits to tie the game up at three.

Senior infielder Alex Lowry pushed in the first run of the game for the Lightning with an RBI single to left field.

Three plays later, Emma Friel hit an RBI single to right center to put the score at 3-2.

Sophomore utility player McKenna Frank came up to the plate next and tied the game up with a Sac Fly.

Goldey-Beacom takes home a 5-4 win!

In the top of the eighth inning, the Bald Eagles regained the lead with a RBI single to put the score at 4-3.

The Lightning rallied in the bottom of the inning to walk off with a 5-4 victory.

Utility player Chaneyl Johnson was the base runner on second base to start the inning.

Two plays later, Emma Friel was hit by a pitch and, then stole second base.

McKenna Frank was next and also hit by a pitch.

Senior utility player Ariana Mirenda pushed in the tying run with a Sac Fly and Friel scored the walk-off winner (5-4) by going home on a wild pitch.

Senior pitcher Cat Nelson went one inning, gave up two hits, three runs, three earned runs, and two walks.

Senior pitcher Morgan McLane went 1.1 innings, three walks, and struck one batter out.

Senior pitcher Caitlyn Burch went 5.2 innings, gave up three hits, one run, two walks, struck out five, hit one batter, and earned the win.
