The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team improved their record to 5-2 on Monday with a sweep (9-2 & 8-3) over the Frostburg State University Bobcats.

Game Recap GM1:
Goldey-Beacom trails by one run after the opening inning.
Frostburg would be the first team to light up the scoreboard in this game, as the team pushed in a run when their centerfielder Randy Steen grounded out to the shortstop to send his teammate designated hitter Ryan Bouma home to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
The Lightning holds a one-run lead after the third inning.
After only having one hit in the first two innings of the game, Goldey-Beacom charged up in the third by scoring two runs on four hits to take a 2-1 edge.
GBC started the inning off with back-to-back singles, and then two plays later, the junior outfielder Anthony Charles pushed in a run with a ground out to first base.
Senior infielder Braden Kolmansberger came up to the plate next and slapped an RBI single to right field to give his team a 2-1 advantage.
GBC leads by three runs at the end of the fourth inning.
The Lightning continued to find ways to score in the next inning, scoring three runs on two hits and one error to extend their lead to 5-1.
Goldey-Beacom’s first run of the inning came off an error from Frostburg’s catcher.
Two plays later, Braden Kolmansberger knocked in his third RBI of the day with a two-run single to left field to give his team a 5-1 edge.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bobcats cut the deficit to three runs with an RBI double hit to the right field.
The Lightning leads by four runs at the end of the sixth inning.
Fast forward to the sixth inning, where the Bolts would push their advantage back to four runs (6-2).
It all started with the second batter in the inning, senior outfielder Christian Petrillo who doubled to left field and then stole third base.
On the next play, Anthony Charles flew out to right field, which sent Petrillo home to give their team a 6-2 lead.
Goldey-Beacom takes home a 9-2 win!
The Lightning continued to pour on the runs in the seventh inning when sophomore infielder Zach Smethers hit an RBI bunt single. Two plays later, Smethers would score on a throw after senior catcher Adam McEvoy stole second.
Sophomore infielder Bobby Stewart stepped up the plate next and slapped an RBI single to right field to seal a 9-2 win over the Bobcats.
Pitching Recap:
Senior pitcher Mikey Hawbaker went five innings, gave up five hits, two runs, one earned run, two walks, struck out six batters, hit two batters, and earned the win.
Senior pitcher Ryan Pozo went two innings, gave up one hit, struck out three batters, and hit one batter.

Frostburg would get on the board first in this game with an RBI single in the opening inning to take the score to 1-0.
The Lightning would respond in the bottom of the first inning with Braden Kolmansberger hitting an RBI single and three plays later, senior infielder Jaden Dickerson smacked a two-run single to left field to give the team a 2-1 lead.
The Lightning leads by one run at the end of the fourth inning.
Fast forward to the top of the fourth inning, where the Bobcats’ Logan Helser slugged a lead-off solo home run to tie the game at two.
Goldey-Beacom punched back with a homer of their own, as Zach Smethers led the bottom of the inning off by smacking the ball out of the park to give his team a 3-2 edge.
GBC leads by five runs at the end of the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Zach Smethers and Bobby Stewart hit back-to-back two-run home runs to give Goldey a 7-2 advantage.
Goldey-Beacom takes home an 8-3 win!
Frostburg sliced the deficit to four runs (7-3) in the sixth inning, when the team scored on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the inning, Braden Kolmansberger would push in another run for GBC when he grounded out to the shortstop to take the score to 8-3.
Pitching Recap:
Junior pitcher Tommy Federici went 2.1 innings, gave up two hits, one run, one earned run, five walks, and struck out two batters.
Freshman pitcher Zach Davis went 3.1 innings, gave up three hits, two runs, two earned runs, three walks, struck out one batter, and earned the win.
Senior pitcher Gage Bendix went 1.1 innings and gave up one walk.
