The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team earns their ninth victory of the season by defeating the Holy Family University Tigers 71-68 on Saturday.
Senior guard Julie Kulesza led the team in scoring in the win with 30 points.
Senior guard Julie McCarron also scored in double-digits by recording 12 points.
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (28-24), points off of turnovers (14-7), fast-break points (4-2), turnovers (7-15), blocks (3-1), and steals (7-5).

Goldey-Beacom leads by six at the end of the first quarter.
The Lightning came out on fire in the early minutes of the opening period by taking a 15-8 advantage with 20 seconds left on the clock. Julie Kulesza had the hot hand during this time, scoring seven of the team’s 15 points.
GBC added two more points to their score for the rest of the first quarter to take a 17-11 lead into the second.
The Lightning holds a three-point lead at the end of the first half.
Fast forward to the 7:26 minute mark, Sophomore guard Katie Yoder drained a three-pointer to push Goldey-Beacom’s edge to 11 points (26-15).
Holy Family would punch back by outscoring Goldey 14-6 to cut the deficit to three points (32-29) at halftime.
The score is all tied at 51 at the end of the third quarter.
The Tigers continued their momentum from the late first half in the early minutes of the second by going on a 16-9 run to grab a 45-41 advantage with 3:46 remaining in the third.
Goldey-Beacom answered back by outscoring Holy Family 10-6 to take a 51-49 edge with 37 seconds left in the third quarter. Julie Kulesza led the charge for the Lightning scoring five of the team’s ten points.
Holy Family ended the quarter by tying the score at 51.
Goldey-Beacom takes home a 71-68 victory!
GBC started the final quarter by scoring eight straight points to grab a 59-53 lead with 6:49 left in the game. Julie McCarron sunk two shots from the three-point line during this time.
The Tigers started to find their shot after this by outscoring the Lightning 10-1 to take a 63-60 lead with 3:53 remaining in the game.
Seconds later, Goldey-Beacom went on an 11-5 run to seal a 71-68 victory over Holy Family. Julie Kulesza had the hot hand during this time, scoring six of the team’s 11 points.
