The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team earns their eighth victory of the season by defeating the Georgian Court University Lions 78-77 in overtime on Saturday.
Senior guard Julie McCarron led the team in scoring in the win, with 18 points.
Junior guard Rory Ciszkowski had a double-double in the game, scoring 16 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
Two other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Senior guard Julie Kulesza (13) and Sophomore guard Katie Yoder (17).
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included second-chance points (18-9), and rebounds (41-34).
GBC was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 73.7%(28-38), and Georgian Court shot 70.6%%(12-17).

Goldey-Beacom holds a nine-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lightning had no problems finding the basket in the early minutes of the opening period, with the team taking an 18-4 edge with 3:56 left in the first quarter. Rory Ciszkowski and Julie McCarron led the charge on offense on the run, scoring 13 of the team’s 18 points.
GBC scored four more points in the opening period to take a 22-13 advantage into the second.

Georgian Court started to get a rhythm flowing on offense in the early minutes of the second quarter, with the team blasting off on a 16-5 run to grab a 29-27 lead with 3:22 remaining in the first half.
The Lions would keep the momentum for the rest of the second quarter by heading into halftime with a four-point edge (35-31).
Goldey-Beacom trails by two points at the end of the third quarter.
The intensity of this game would go up a couple of notches in the first six minutes and 48 seconds of the second half. The lead would bounce back and forth between the two teams during that time, with the highest cushion of the lead only being three points.
At the 2:17 minute mark, Rory Ciszkowski gave GBC a four-point lead (50-46) when she drained a three-pointer.
In the remaining minutes, the score would be tied twice and the lead would continue to switch hands until the very last second of the first half. Georgian Court would take a two-point advantage (55-53) into the fourth, thanks to a last-second layup from Maria Stanescu.
The fourth quarter isn’t enough as the Lightning heads to overtime.
Goldey-Beacom saw the basket well in the early minutes of the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lions 14-8 to take a 67-63 edge with 24 seconds left on the clock in the game. Seven of those points came from the free-throw line.
In the remaining seconds of the game, Georgian Court fought by going on a 5-1 run, which was capped off by Julia Whesper nailing a three-pointer with less than a second remaining on the clock to send the matchup into overtime.
Goldey-Beacom takes home a 78-77 overtime victory!
Neither team was going down without a fight in this one, as the lead bounced back and forth and the game was tied three times until the Lightning took a one-point advantage (76-75) with a made free throw with 39 seconds left on the clock.
The Lions would grab a one-point lead (77-76) a couple of seconds later, with two free throw shots going through.
Freshman forward Lydia Betz would give Goldey the win in the overtime thriller by sinking a layup with 14 seconds left in the game.
