The University of Delaware women’s basketball team extended their winning streak to five on Sunday with an 82-59 victory over the William & Mary Tribe.
Sophomore center Ande’a Cherisier led the team in scoring in the win with 24 points.
Four other Hens players scored in double digits: Senior guards Ella Wanzer (17), Tara Cousins (12), Senior guard Rebecca Demeke (10), and Senior forward Chloe Wilson (10).
UD had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (46-40), fast-break points (7-5), points off of turnovers ( 16-10), turnovers (14-16), steals (9-5), assists (15-13), and rebounds (33-27).
The Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 55.0(33-60) and William & Mary 42.1 (24-57). UD also bested the Tribe from the three-point line, with the team shooting 50.0 (8-16) and William & Mary shooting 5.9 (1-17). Delaware also outshot the Tribe at the free-throw line, with the team shooting 80.0(8-10), and William & Mary 71.4(10-14).

Delaware leads by nine points at the end of the first quarter.
The Blue Hens would start this game by flying off to an 8-2 edge with 7:09 remaining in the opening period. Rebecca Demeke scored four of the eight points during that run.
Fast forward to the 1:43 minute mark in the game, where Demeke helped the Hens, once again, by draining a three-pointer to put the score at 18-11.
UD would score five more points in the first quarter to head into the second with a 23-14 advantage.
The Blue Hens lead by 12 points at the end of the first half.
Delaware continued to expand their lead in the early minutes of the second quarter by going on a 6-2 run to push the score to 29-16 with 6:56 left in the first half.
William & Mary responded back by scoring six straight points to cut the deficit to seven points (29-22), with 3:41 remaining in the second quarter.
The Hens would end the first half on a high note by outscoring the Tribe 8-3 to hold a 37-25 edge. Ella Wanzer drilled two shots from the three-point line in the last minute of the opening half for UD.
UD leads by 12 points at the end of the third quarter.
Delaware opened the second half by outscoring William & Mary 10-6 to increase their advantage to 47-31 with 7:38 left in the third. Ella Wanzer and Rebecca Demeke each hit a three-pointer, during this time.
The Tribe punched back by dashing off to a 12-4 run to slice the deficit to eight points (51-43) with 3:02 remaining in the third quarter.
UD ended the quarter in a good way by outscoring William & Mary 8-4 to head into the fourth with a 59-47 lead.
Delaware takes home an 82-59 victory!
In the fourth quarter, it was the Blue Hens Sophomore center Ande’a Cherisier show, as she scored buckets with ease, downing 13 of the team’s 23 points in the period to seal an 82-59 victory for her team.
