Big second half run lifts Goldey-Beacom to a 76-71 victory over Georgian Court

The  Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team took home their 11th victory of the season on Saturday with a 76-71 win over the Georgian Court University Lions.

Junior guard Shane Taylor led the team in scoring in the win with 14 points.

Three other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Zakari McQueen (13),  Freshman guard Tre Powell (12), and Junior forward Zayon Marsh.

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off of turnovers (31-23), bench points (28-21), turnovers (17-22), and blocks (10-0).

Goldey-Beacom trails by four points at the end of the first half.

The game started with Georgian Court running off to a 7-3 edge with 15:29 remaining in the opening period.

Starting at the 13:58 minute mark, the Lightning started to find their shots by going on a 13-5 run to grab a 16-12 advantage with 8:24 left in the first half. Shane Taylor caught fire during this time, scoring nine of the team’s 13 points.

The Lions ended the opening period on a high note by outscoring Goldey-Beacom 19-11 to take a 31-27 lead into halftime.

The Lightning takes home a 76-71 victory!

Georgian Court had a nice rhythm to their offense in the early minutes of the second half by dashing off to an 18-9 run to grab a 13-point edge (49-36) with 15:22 left in the game.

Sixty-eight seconds later, GBC responded by outscoring the Lions 29-10 to take a 65-59 advantage with 4:59 remaining in the second half. The Lightning was hot from the three-point line during that time, with the team hitting four and Sophomore guard Zakari McQueen drained two of them.   

Goldey added 11 more points to their score in the second half to seal a 76-71 victory over Georgian Court.
