The University of Delaware softball team took home two wins on Friday with a 4-1 score over Georgia Southern and an 8-2 win versus nationally ranked Michigan.
Game Recap GM1 vs Georgia Southern:
Delaware takes a three-run lead in the bottom of the second inning.
After not getting a hit in the first inning, the Blue Hens came back big in the second by scoring three runs on three hits.
Senior pitcher/outfielder Morgan Hess led the inning off with a solo home run, and two batters later, sophomore infielder Gianna Costaro hit the ball out of the ball out of the park to give their team a 2-0 lead. Three batters later, junior infielder Marlayna Capaldi hit an RBI double to right center to give the Hens a 3-0 edge in the third.
The Blue Hens take home a 4-1 win!
Delaware would add to their lead in the bottom of the third when junior catcher Sydney Shaffer slugged an RBI single to the shortstop to give her team a 4-0 advantage.
Georgia Southern would get on the board in the sixth inning but UD still took home a 4-1 lead.
Pitching Recap:
Morgan Hess went 1.1 innings in the game.
Senior pitcher Billie Kerwood went 5.2 innings, gave up three hits, one run, and had nine strikeouts.
Game Two vs Michigan:
Delaware takes a four-run lead in the first inning.
The Blue Hens started off this game fast by pushing in five runs on three hits and one error in the top of the first inning. Two of the runs came from Sydney Shaffer hitting a double to left center.
Michigan would cut the lead to four (5-1) when they scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the inning.
The Hens take home an 8-2 win!
Fast forward to the fourth inning when UD extended their advantage to six runs (7-1) when Morgan Hess and Sydney Shaffer each had an RBI single.
The Hens continued to roll in the fifth inning when Graduate student catcher Mary Beth Cahalan slugged a RBI double to left field to take her team’s edge to 8-1.
Michigan would get a run in the bottom of the seventh inning but UD still took home a 8-2 win.

Billie Kerwood went 4.2 innings, gave up five hits, one run, four walks, two strikeouts, and hit one batter.
