The Delaware State University men’s basketball team earned their 11th win of the season on Saturday with an 84-61 victory over Coppin State Eagles.
Senior guard Robert Smith led the team in scoring in the win with 20 points.
Three other DSU players who scored in double-digits were Senior guard Martaz Robinson (19), Freshman forward Kaseem Watson (13), and senior forward Alston Andrews (12).
Delaware State had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which, included points in the paint (44-34), fast-break points (21-12), points off of turnovers (21-11), assists (19-11), and rebounds (40-35).
DSU also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 52.3(34-65) and Coppin State shooting 37.7(23-61). The Hornets were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 53.3 (8-15), and the Eagles shot 9.1(2-22).

Delaware State leads by 30 points at the end of the first half.
The Hornets were buzzing as soon the ball tipped off in this matchup, running out to a 13-2 edge with 14:56 left in the opening period. Robert Smith and senior forward Muneer Newton had the hot hand during this time, scoring nine of the 13 points.
Fast forward to the 7:49 minute mark, where Alston Andrews would make a layup to push DSU’s advantage to 24 points (32-8).
Delaware State continued to score easily for the rest of the first half, outscoring Coppin State 20-14 to take a 52-22 lead into halftime. Martaz Robinson sunk three shots from the three-point line during that time.

In the early minutes of the second half, the Eagles brought some firepower to the floor, as they were able to cut the deficit to 16 points (67-51) with 9:12 remaining in the game.
DSU would block Coppin State from coming any closer to their lead by scoring 17 more points in the second half to seal an 84-61 victory.
