The Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team took home their eighth victory of the season Tuesday with an 80-71 win over Holy Family University.
Sophomore guard Zakari McQueen led the team in scoring in the win with 19 points.
Three other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Freshman guard Tre Powell (17), Junior guard Shane Taylor (14), and Senior forward David Robinson (13).
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (30-26), points off of turnovers (15-4), bench points (21-18), assists (17-14), and turnovers (11-17).
Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 44.8% (26-58) and Holy Family shooting 43.3% ( 26-60).
GBC also outshot the Tigers from the free-throw line, with the team shooting 81.0%(17-21) and Holy Family shooting 63.6%(7-11).

Goldey-Beacom leads by 14 at the end of the first half.
The Lightning struck fast in the early minutes of the opening period, taking a 21-10 advantage with 6:05 remaining in the first half. Senior forward David Robinson and Tre Powell had the hot hand during this time, scoring 12 of the team’s 21 points.
Rebounding was a huge factor in GBC’s taking a double-digit advantage, as the team collected 12 rebounds during that time. Goldey also had three steals during that run.
Goldey-Beacom would add 11 more points to their score in the first half to take a 32-18 lead into halftime. Shane Taylor scored six of the 11 points by draining back-to-back three-pointers.
The Lightning takes home an 80-71 victory!
Holy Family came out roaring in the early minutes of the second half, erasing GBC’s edge to single digits (39-32) by going on a 14-7 run.
Thirteen seconds later, Goldey pushed their lead back up to double-digits (51-38) by outscoring the Tigers 12-6 with 10:52 left in the game. Zakari McQueen, Shane Taylor, and Sophomore guard Bryson Kittrell each sunk a three-pointer during that time.
Fast forward to the 3:56 minute mark, where Holy Family’s CJ Mundell made a layup to slice the deficit to six points (65-59).
The Lightning would add 15 more points to their score to seal an 80-71 victory over the Tigers. Eight of those 15 points came from the free-throw line.
