The Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team took home their seventh victory of the season Saturday with an 86-82 overtime win over the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights.
Sophomore guard Zakari McQueen led the Lightning in the scoring in the win with 30 points.
Junior guard Shane Taylor also scored in double-digits in the game with 22 points.
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included bench points (38-34), rebounds (51-39), and steals (13-7).
GBC also bested the Purple Knights from the three-point line, with the team shooting 34.3%(12-35) and Bridgeport shooting 31.0%(9-29).

Goldey-Beacom trails by five points at the end of the first half.
Bridgeport started this game by flying off to a 6-0 lead with 16:15 remaining in the opening period.
The Lightning would answer back by outscoring the Purple Knights 12-7 to slice the deficit to one point (13-12) with 11:02 left in the first half. Shane Taylor had the hot during this time, scoring ten of the team’s 12 points.
Fast forward to the 6:43 minute mark, where Bridgeport would put a little more cushion into their lead (26-18) with Gabe Franklin sinking a three-pointer.
GBC would outscore the Purple Knights 12-9 for the rest of the half by would still trail by five points (35-30) heading into halftime.
The Lightning pushes the game into overtime!
Fast forward to the 7:21 minute mark in the second half, where Caleb Jacobs made a layup to give Bridgeport a very comfortable 18-point lead (68-50).
It might not have looked good for Goldey-Beacom but the team never gave up as they dashed off on a 22-4 run to tie the game up at 72. Zakari McQueen did the heavy lifting during this time, scoring 14 of the 22 points. He also drained four shots from the three-point line, including the game-tying shot with 21 seconds left in the second half.
GBC takes home an 86-82 victory in overtime!
Zakari McQueen would continue to cause problems for the Purple Knight defenders in overtime, scoring nine of the team’s 14 points to seal an 86-82 overtime win.
