In-season Look: University of Delaware’s Tara Cousins

Our next in-season look-in is guard Tara Cousins, one of the senior leaders of the University of Delaware Women’s basketball team.

Cousins leads the team in scoring through 15 games, averaging 11.6 points per game. That point total per game ranks her among the top 20 scorers in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Washington, D.C. native has scored in double-digits nine times this year.

The UD guard’s highest-scoring game of the season was on January 3rd when she posted 20 points in the 65-59 loss. She made eight of her 14 shots in that game and sunk three out of five attempts from the three-point line.

Her second-highest point total through the year is 16, which is a mark she has hit three times in 15 games. One of Cousins’ best shooting games of the 2024-2025 season was in an 88-82 win over Colgate, where she scored 16 points and hit 77.8% (7-9) of her shots that game.

Scoring is not the only skill that the senior leader of the UD team has, as Cousins knows how to find her teammates who are in a good position to score. She leads the team with 45 assists and averages three per game.

With those numbers, the Delaware guard ranks in the top 15 in the CAA conference in assists.

Cousins’ season-high in assists came in the dominating win over their in-state rival, the Delaware State Hornets. She would dish out ten assists in the 73-26 win.

The senior guard is averaging 11.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and three assists in 15 games this year.
