The Wilmington University men’s basketball team earned their fifth victory of the season on Wednesday with a 72-60 win over the Holy Family University.
Freshman forward Tre Hawkins led the team in scoring in the win with 19 points. He also recorded a double-double in the victory, as Hawkins had 11 rebounds.
Graduate student guard Manir Waller also recorded a double-double in the game, scoring 14 points and collecting 12 rebounds.
Junior guard Justin Perez also hit double-digits in the win with 14 points.
WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, including points off of turnovers (22-11), assists (11-9), and rebounds (46-35).
Wilmington University also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 40.4%(21-52) and Holy Family shooting 33.9%(20-59). The Wildcats were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 25.0%(5-20), and the Tigers shot (4-23) WilmU also bested Holy Family at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 78.1% (25-32), and the Tigers shot 59.3% (16-27).

Wilmington University leads by 13 at the end of the first half.
The Wildcats started the game by running off to a 17-8 edge with 12:37 remaining in the opening period. Manir Waller and sophomore guard Hamahrie Bowers led the charge during that time, scoring 12 of the 17 points.
Fast forward to the 4:59 minute mark, where Freshman guard Denim Perkins would drain a three-pointer to ballon WilmU’s advantage to 19 points (35-19).
Holy Family ended the first half by finding some offense, outscoring Wilmington 8-5. The team headed into halftime trailing by 13 points (40-27).
WilmU takes home a 72-60 victory!
The Tigers continued to chip away at the lead in the early minutes of the second half, as the team went on a 10-6 run to slice the deficit to nine points (46-37) with 14:59 remaining in the game.
Starting at the 14:40 minute mark, the Wildcats would build their lead back up to double digits by going on a 12-2 run to bring the score to 58-39 with 10:57 left in the second half. Manir Waller and Justin Perez caused problems for the Holy Family defense during this time, scoring eight of the team’s 12 points.
Despite the Tigers outscoring WilmU 21-14 down the stretch, Wilmington still took home a comfortable 72-60 victory.
