The Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team earned their fifth victory of the season on Saturday with an 84-80 win over the Bloomfield College Bears.
Sophomore guard Zakari McQueen led the Lightning in the scoring in the win with 29 points.
Senior forward David Robinson recorded a double-double in the win, scoring 13 points and collecting 13 rebounds.
Two other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Freshman guard Tre Powell (17) and, sophomore forward Julian Williams (10).
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off of turnovers (16-7), bench points (16-13), turnovers (9-14), and steals (6-3).
GBC also bested Bloomfield from the three-point line, with the team shooting 50.0%(15-30) and the Bears shooting 34.8%(8-23).GBC also outshot Bloomfield from the free-throw line, with the team shooting 91.7%
(11-12) and the Bears shooting 84.2% (16-19).

Goldey-Beacom leads by 13 at the end of the first half.
The Lightning started the game off by sinking back-to-back three-pointers to give them a 6-2 edge with 18:20 remaining in the opening period. Tre Powell drained a three-pointer and had an assist on the run.
Fast forward to the 10:03 minute mark, where Powell would sink another shot from the three-point line to give his team an eight-point lead (26-18).
Bloomfield would answer back by scoring nine straight points to grab a 27-26 edge with 7:45 left in the first half.
GBC punched back by outscoring the Bears 22-8 for the rest of the opening period to take a 48-35 advantage into halftime. Powell, Julian Williams, and Sophomore guard Zakari McQueen made trouble for Bloomfield’s defense by scoring 17 of the 22 points. Williams also had two steals during this run.
The Lightning takes home an 84-80 victory!
Goldey continued to hold a double-digit lead (63-53) for the first nine minutes and 66 seconds in the second half, including a 14-point edge (63-49) at the 11:50 minute mark.
Starting at the 9:58 minute mark, the Bears would go on an 8-2 run to slice the deficit to four points (65-61) with 8:02 left in the game.
Fast forward to the 46-second mark, where Bloomfield’s Starrell Hearns sunk a three-pointer to cut the score to 80-78.
The Lightning would hang on to seal an 84-80 victory by outscoring the Bears 4-2 in the final seconds of the game.
