The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team extends their winning streak to four games after defeating the Bloomfield College Bears 74-66 on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Katie Yoder led the Lightning in scoring in the win with 21 points.
Two other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Senior guards Julie Kulesza (20), and Julie McCarron (14).
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (30-22), fast-break points (4-0), rebounds (36-31), and blocks (2-1).
Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 44.4%(20-45) and Bloomfield shooting 34.3%(23-67). Lightning was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 90.9%(30-33), and the Bears shot 83.3%(10-12).

Goldey-Beacom holds an eight lead after one-quarter of play.
The Lightning’s offense struck gold right away as they opened the game with a 19-9 advantage with 2:37 remaining in the first period. Senior guard Julie Kulesza had the hot hand during this time scoring six of the team’s 19 points.
GBC would add five more points to their total in the quarter to head to the second with a 24-16 edge.
The Lightning leads by five at the end of the first half.
Bloomfield started to find a groove in the early minutes of the second quarter, outscoring Goldey-Beacom 13-6 to cut the deficit to one point (30-29) with 3:59 left in the first half.
GBC wouldn’t lose its lead. The team went on an 8-4 run to take a 38-33 lead into halftime. Katie Yoder was hitting buckets with ease during that time, scoring six of the team’s eight points.
Goldey-Beacom trails by six points at the end of the third quarter.
The Bears continue to charge back in the second half, as the team outscored the Lightning 23-12 in the third quarter to take a 56-50 advantage into the fourth. Taneshia Tucker, Kamrin Babbs, and Serenity Burgess caused problems for Goldey’s defense scoring 15 of the team’s 23 points.
GBC also had problems, with turning the ball over in the third period, as the team had five, and Bloomfield only had two.
Goldey-Beacom’s shots just were not falling in the quarter, as the team only hit one of their eight shots.
The Lightning takes home a 74-66 victory.
Goldey roared back in the fourth quarter by Julie Kulesza, Katie Yoder, and Julie McCarron putting the team on their back scoring 20 of the team’s 24 points to seal a 74-66 victory over Bloomfield.
The team went to the free-throw line often in the final quarter, where they drained 13 of the 14 shots.
