Goldey-Beacom extends winning streak to three with 62-54 victory over Staten Island

The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team keeps rolling extending their winning streak to three with a 62-54 victory over the College of the Staten Island Dolphins.

Senior guard Julie Kulesza led Goldey-Beacom in scoring in the win with 16 points.

Two other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were junior guard Rory Ciszkowski (15), and Sophomore guard Katie Yoder (10).

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off of turnovers (10-7), assists (18-17), and turnovers (13-14).

Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 44.0%(22-50) and Staten Island shooting 35.1%(20-57). GBC bested CSI at the three-point line as the team shot 48.1% (13-27) and the Dolphins 32% (8-25). Lightning was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 71.4%(5-7), and Staten Island shot 60%(6-10).

Goldey-Beacom leads by four points at the end of the first quarter.

The Lightning came out swinging in the opening period, which gave them a 13-9 advantage heading into the second quarter. Julie Kulesza led the team in points in the period (4) and collected two rebounds.  Junior guard Rory Ciszkowski scored no points but had two rebounds and dished out two assists.

The Lightning leads by 12 points at the end of the first half.

Rory Ciszkowski, Julie Kulesza, and Sophomore guard Katie Yoder had Goldey-Beacom rolling in the second quarter, as the trio scored 20 of the team’s 22 points to send the team into halftime with a 35-23 edge. During this run, GBC drained four shots from the three-point line, and Ciszkowski sunk two.

GBC leads by nine points at the end of the third quarter.

Fast forward to the 5:51-minute mark in the third period, where Julie Kulesza hit a three-pointer to give Goldey a 17-point lead (44-27).

Nineteen seconds later, Staten Island would fight back by outscoring the Lightning 10-2 to cut the deficit to nine points (46-37) heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lightning takes home a 62-54 victory!

GBC started the fourth by dashing off to a 16-9 run to push the lead to 62-46 with 1:48 left in the game. During this time, Goldy-Beacom was on fire from the three-point line hitting five shots, and  Rory Ciszkowski drained two of them.

The Dolphins would score eight straight points to end the game, but Goldey hung on to win 62-54.
