The Delaware State University men’s basketball team earned their sixth victory of the season on Thursday with a 73-60 win over the Grambling State University.
Senior guard Robert Smith led the team in scoring in the win with 16 points.
Senior forward Muneer Newton recorded a double-double in the game, scoring 13 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
Two other DSU players who scored in double-digits were Freshman forward Kaseem Watson (13), and Senior guard Martaz Robinson (15).
Delaware State had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included fast-break points (6-5), blocks (4-0), assists (12-11), and rebounds (36-33).
DSU also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 47.4(27-57) and Grambling State shooting 37.9 (22-58). The Hornets were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 50%(5-10), and the Tigers shot 16.7(4-24). Delaware State also outshot Grambling State at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 82.4(14-17), and the Tigers shot 63.2(12-19).

Delaware State leads by four points at the end of the first half.
The Hornets would fly out to a 7-3 lead in this Chris Paul HBCU Classic matchup with 18:10 remaining in the opening half. Muneer Newton did a little of everything on this run, scoring two points, collecting one rebound, and dishing out one assist.
Starting at the 17:21 minute mark, Grambling State responded by outscoring DSU 17-9 to grab a 20-16 edge with 10:22 left in the first half.
Delaware State would fire back by scoring six straight points to take a 22-20 advantage with 6:36 remaining in the opening half. Martaz Robinson hit the boards and bucket during this time, collecting two rebounds and scoring two points.
A minute and 89 seconds later, the Tigers would tie the game up at 24, when Mikale Stevenson made a layup.
The Hornets ended the first half on a good note, going on a 5-1 run to take a 29-25 lead into halftime.
DSU takes home a 73-60 victory!
Fast forward to the 14:52 minute mark, where the Hornets capped off an 11-5 run with Kaseem Watson draining a jump shot to give the team a ten-point lead (40-30).
The double-digit lead didn’t last long for Delaware State as Grambling scored five straight points to slice the deficit to five points (40-35) with 13:44 remaining in the game.
Fast forward to the 7:03 minute mark, where Martaz Robinson nailed a three-pointer to push DSU’s advantage to 12 points (55-43).
Robert Smith led the Hornets down the stretch by scoring ten of the team’s 18 points to seal a 73-60 victory over the Tigers.
