The Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team earned their fourth victory of the season on Saturday with a 78-68 win over the Franklin Pierce University Ravens.
Freshman guard Tre Powell led Goldey-Beacom in scoring in the win with 22 points. Powell was hot from the three-point line in this game, sinking three of his four attempts.
Two other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Junior guard Shane Taylor (20), and Junior forward Zayon Marsh (19).
Senior forward David Robinson was locked on the boards all day, collecting 13 rebounds.
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off of turnovers (21-20), second-chance points (24-8), rebounds (41-25), turnovers (18-20), and steals (10-8).
GBC also bested Franklin Pierce from the free-throw line, with the team shooting 80.8%(21-26) and the Wildcats shooting 57.1%(8-14).

Goldey-Beacom leads by nine points at the end of the first half.
The Lightning blasted off to a 13-3 advantage in the early minutes of the opening minutes of the first half. GBC was on fire from the three-point line during this time, draining three shots. Shane Taylor sunk two of those shots.
Fast forward to the 2:25 minute mark, where Franklin Pierce fought all the way back to slice the deficit to five points (36-31) when Caleb Gatewood made a layup.
Goldey-Beacom would make four straight shots from the free-throw line to give them a 40-31 lead at the end of the first half.
GBC takes home a 78-68 victory!
The Ravens came out flying in the early minutes of the second half by outscoring the Lightning 19-13 to cut the lead to three points (53-50) with 12:40 remaining in the game.
Starting at the 11:57 minute mark, Goldey-Beacom began a 22-14 run that pushed their edge to 75-64 with 42 seconds left in the second half. Tre Powell had the hot hand during this time, scoring 12 of the team’s 22 points. GBC was locked on the boards during the run, collecting 17 rebounds. The team also had two steals and two blocks during that time.
The Lightning scored three more points for the rest of the game to seal a 78-68 victory over Franklin Pierce.
