Timko scores 17 points in Blue Hens 78-51 victory over Chestnut Hill

The University of Delaware men’s basketball team moved their record to 6-4 on the season with a 78-51 victory over the Division II Chestnut Hill College Griffins.

Senior guard Erik Timko led the Blue Hens in scoring in the win with 17 points.

Three other Hens players scored in double digits: senior guard Niels Lane (13), freshman forward Macon Emory (10), and junior forward Gabe Moss (10).

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (44-26), fast-break points (17-9), blocks (7-2), assists (16-6), and rebounds (58-36).

UD also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 43.9%(29-66) and Chestnut Hill 25.7 (19-74). The Blue Hens also bested the Griffins from the three-point line, with the team shooting 22.6(7-31) and Chestnut Hill shooting 20.0(5-25). Delaware also outshot the Griffins at the free-throw line, with the team shooting 86.7(13-15), and Chestnut Hill 80.0 (8-10).

Delaware leads by 14 at the end of the first half.

The Blue Hens came flying out with a 7-0 advantage with 17:35 remaining in the opening period. Freshman Izaiah Pasha and Niels Lane were on fire during that run, scoring all seven points.

Chestnut Hill punched right back by going on a 13-2 run to take a 13-9 edge with 12:15 left in the first half.

UD would answer back with a 6-2 run, which was capped off with freshman forward Macon Emory draining a three-pointer to tie the game at 15 with 10:54 remaining in the opening period.

Emory would hit another game-tying three-pointer (20-20) for the Hens at the 8:25-minute mark.

Gabe Moss,  Niels Lane, and Erik Timko gave the Griffins defense fits down for the rest of the first half, scoring 14 of the team’s 22 points to head into halftime with a 42-28 lead.

The Blue Hens take home a 78-51 win!

Fast forward to the 8:34 minute mark in the second half, where Delaware would stretch their edge to 20 points (62-42) when Senior forward John Camden sunk a three-point shot.

Delaware outscored Chestnut Hill 16-9 for the rest of the game to seal a 78-51 victory!
