The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team earned their first victory of the season on Saturday with an 80-59 win over the Wilmington University Wildcats.
Junior guard Rory Ciszkowski led the Lightning in scoring in the win with 29 points.
Two other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were sophomore guard Katie Yoder (10) and Julie Kulesza (20).
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (34-14), points off of turnovers (19-16), fast-break points (12-5), assists (20-12), turnovers (15-23), blocks (2-1), and steals (13-6).
Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 45.9%(28-61) and WilmU shooting 37.5%(21-56). Lightning was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 81.3%(13-16), and the Wildcats shot 41.7%(5-12).

The Lightning struck first in this matchup, as the team ran off to a 6-0 lead with 7:24 remaining in the opening period. Rory Ciszkowski and sophomore guard Katie Yoder were scoring buckets with ease during this time, as the duo scored all six points.
Eighty-six seconds later, WilmU would tie the game up at six by hitting back-to-back three-pointers.
GBC would get back on the grind after that by outscoring Wilmington 16-9 to head into the second quarter with a 22-15 edge. Goldey-Beacom was feeling it from the three-point line during this run, scoring 12 of their 16 points from downtown. Ciszkowski drained two shots from the three-point line during that time.
The Lightning would lead by 17 points at the end of the first half.
It was the Rory Ciszkowski and Julie Kulesza show in the second quarter, as the duo scored 21 of the team’s 24 points to push GBC’s advantage to 46-29. Ciszkowski sunk three out of her four shots from the three-point line in the second quarter.
GBC leads by 20 points at the end of the third quarter.
The Lightning would keep the cushy lead in the third quarter with the quartet of Rory Ciszkowski, Katie Yoder, Julie Kulesza, and freshman forward Lydia Betz giving the Wildcats defense trouble by scoring 19 of the team’s 21 points to head into the fourth with a 67-47 edge.

The Lightning cruised to an 80-59 victory, as Rory Ciszkowski scored six of the team’s 13 points in the final quarter.
