The Wilmington University men’s basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 92-71 victory over the Georgian Court University Lions on Tuesday.
Freshman guard Jaylin Horsey led the team in scoring with 27 points. Horsey was near unstoppable at the three-point line in this game, hitting seven of his 11 shots from downtown.
Three other Wilmington players who scored in double digits in the win were freshman forward Tre Hawkins (17), Graduate student guard Manir Waller (14), and junior guard Justin Perez (23). Hawkins also recorded a double-double on the night, collecting 13 rebounds.
Freshman guard Denim Perkins found his teammates in good spots all night, dishing out ten assists.
WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included bench points (28-27), fast-break points (19-5), points in the paint (38-24), points off of turnovers (31-14), turnovers (14-25), assists (20-12), and rebounds (38-36), steals (13-10), and blocks (5-4).
Wilmington University also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 50.0%(31-62) and Georgian Court shooting 45.3%(24-53). The Wildcats were also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 65.6%(21-32), and the Lions shot 59.1%(13-22).

Wilmington University holds a 14-point lead at the end of the first half.
Georgian Court came out on fire to start this game, taking a 9-0 edge with 16:53 remaining in the opening half.
The Wildcats’ slow start didn’t last, as they would go on a 34-16 run in the next 11 minutes and 23 seconds to grab a 34-25 lead with 5:30 left in the first half. Jaylin Horsey, Tre Hawkins, and Manir Waller gave the Lions defense trouble during this time, scoring 28 of the team’s 34 points.
Wilmington continued to find their rhythm for the rest of the opening half by outscoring Georgian Court 11-6 to take a 45-31 edge into halftime. Waller and Horsey led the way for WilmU scoring seven of the 11 points.

Fast forward to the 10:29 minute mark, where WilmU’s lead expanded to 21 points (70-49) when Jaylin Horsey drained a three-pointer.
Horsey and Justin Perez took over the game after that scoring 17 of the Cats’ 22 final points to seal a 92-71 win over the Lions.
