The University of Delaware men’s basketball team earned their second win of the season on Tuesday with a 64-58 victory over the Iona University Gaels.
Senior guards Niels Lane and Tahron Allen led the team in scoring by each having 14 points.
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included fast-break points (18-11), and turnovers (15-17).
UD also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 37.3%(22-59) and Iona 30.1% (22-73). The Blue Hens also bested the Gaels from the three-point line, with the team shooting 35.0%(7-20) and Iona shooting 18.2%(4-22). Delaware also outshot Iona at the free-throw line, with the team shooting 76.5 (13-17), and the Gaels 45.5 (10-22).

Delaware leads by 12 points at the end of the first half.
The game started with the Hens jumping out to a 16-9 edge with 8:50 left in the opening half. Tahron Allen and John Camden gave the Iona defense problems during that run, scoring 12 of the team’s 16 points.
UD would outscore the Gaels 14-9 for the rest of the first half to take a 30-18 advantage into halftime. Allen and Niels Lane had the hot hand during this time, scoring ten of the team’s 14 points.

Iona came out with a bang in the early minutes of the second half, as the team outscored Delaware 13-4 to slice the deficit to three points (34-31) with 14:44 remaining in the game.
Fast forward to the 6:22 minute mark, where the Hens would take a seven-point lead (50-43) when John Camden sunk a three-pointer.
Seconds later, the Gaels would roar back to go on a 13-5 run to grab a 56-55 edge with 1:34 left in the fourth quarter.
Junior guard Cavan Reilly would carry Delaware back for a 64-58 win as Reilly scored five of the team’s seven points in the final minute of the game.
