Six players reach double-digits in Wilmington University’s 97-77 win over D’Youville

The Wilmington University men’s basketball team earned their first victory of the season on Saturday with a 97-77 win over the D’Youville University Saints.

Junior guard Justin Perez was the leading scorer for the Wildcats with 15 points.

Five other Wilmington players who scored in double digits in the win were senior guard Izaiah Credle  (14), junior guard Skip Burton  (13), sophomore guard Hamahrie Bowers  (12), freshman forward Tre Hawkins  (13), and freshman guard Jaylin Horsey  (11).

WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included bench points (30-14), points off of turnovers (15-14), turnovers (13-14), assists (20-6), rebounds (33-29), and blocks (2-0).

Wilmington University also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 60.3%(35-58) and D’Youville shooting 44.4%(24-54). The Wildcats were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 50.0%(12-24), and the Saints shot 20.0%(4-20).

Wilmington University leads by eight points at the end of the first half.

The game started with D’Youville running out to a 6-2 advantage with 18:44 remaining in the opening half.

Fast forward to the 11:18 minute Mark, where the Saints’ Noah Hutchins hit a layup and made a free throw to give his team an eight-point edge (26-18).

Wilmington started to fire up after this as the team went on a 33-17 run to hold a 51-43 advantage at halftime. Freshman guard Denim Perkins, Hamahrie Bowers, Graduate student guard Manir Waller, and Justin Perez were finding the basket with ease during this time, as the quartet scored 28 of the team’s 33 points.

The Wildcats take home a 97-77 victory!

Wilmington would continue their late surge of minimum in the first half in the early minutes of the second by dashing off to a 24-10 run, which was capped off with Hamahrie Bowers rocking the basket with a dunk to give his team a 75-55 advantage with 12:03 remaining in the game.

Fast forward to the four-minute mark, where Izaiah Credle tipped the ball in the basket to extend the Cats’ edge to 21 points (91-70).

WilmU would add six more points to their score to seal a 97-77 victory over the Saints.
