Goldey-Beacom ends regular season with a 6-4 victory over Wilmington University

The Goldey-Beacom men’s soccer team closed the season with an eventful 6-4 win over the Wilmington University Wildcats on Thursday.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom takes a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.

The Lightning would strike first in this game, as Junior midfielder Lucas Fernandes bounced one over the goalie from the 18-yard box to give his team a 1-0 lead at the sixth-minute mark. Freshman midfielder Ogün Ünal assisted on Fernades’s score.

At the 15-minute mark, senior midfielder  Nick Perez pushed the ball into the goal for a score, giving GBC a 2-0 advantage. Ünal earned his second assist on the day on Perez’s goal.

 Nine minutes later, senior defender Colby Niggebrugge took a corner kick from the right side and found the net to give Goldey-Beacom a 3-0 edge.

The Lightning take home a 6-4 win.

Wilmington’s offense woke up in the second half by scoring four goals, of which two came from Theo Faillon. But it wouldn’t be enough to stage a comeback, as goals from junior forward Emanuel Bustos, Ogün Ünal, and freshman midfielder Sam Ball sealed a 6-4 victory for the Lightning.

The standouts in the game for the Lightning were Lucas Fernandes, Ogün Ünal, Nick Perez, Colby Niggebrugge, Emanuel Bustos, Sam Ball, and Freshman goalkeeper Pedro Montanes.

Fernandes had one shot, one shot at the goal, scored one goal, and had three assists in the game.

Ünal had three shots, two shots at the goal, scored one goal and two assists in the victory.

Perez had one shot, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the win.

Niggebrugge had three shots, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the victory.
