Delaware would open up this match with the ball first, and the team would drive 78 yards in 15 plays to end with quarterback Zach Marker finding his wideout Phil Lutz, who took the reception for 56 yards for the score to give the Hens at 7-0 edge with 13:08 remaining in the opening period.
Maine’s first possession wouldn’t end in points, but the second one did, as the Black Bears went 60 yards in eight plays to see running back Jaharie Martin rushing for a one-yard touchdown to tie the game at seven with 28 seconds left in the first.

Fast forward to the 13:57 minute mark in the second quarter, where Maine’s running back Brian Santana-Fis fumbled the ball on the second play on the drive, and the Hens defensive back Nic Ware scooped it up at the Black Bears 15-yard line.
UD’s offense took advantage of the short field, as the team went 15 yards in five plays to end with Zach Marker hitting wide receiver Jake Thaw for the six-yard touchdown reception to give the Blue Hens a 13-7 advantage with 11:40 left in the first half. The University of Delaware’s extra-point try was blocked after the score.
Maine would grab the lead (14-13) around the 3:11 minute mark when their quarterback Carter Peevy found his wideout Montigo Moss for the 19-yard touchdown reception.

UD’s first possession of the second half started at their own yard line and they marched 74 yards in 11 plays, but the drive stalled out at the Black Bears six-yard line, where kicker Nate Reed hit a 23-yard field goal to put the Blue Hens up 16-14 with 6:37 left in third quarter.
One of the highlights in this drive came when Zach Marker found wideout Phil Lutz for a 32-yard connection on the first play of the possession.
The Hens’ offense continued to find ways to get on the board, as on their next drive, the team cruised 80 yards in eight plays to end with running back Jo’Nathan Silver galloping 40 yards for the touchdown to expand UD’s edge to 23-14 at the end of the third.

Maine’s final scoring drive of the game would start in great field position, thanks to a 60-yard kick-off return by Trevin Ewing, who took it to Delaware’s 35-yard line.
The Black Bears would end the possession with running back Tavion Banks pushing the ball in for a one-yard score to cut the deficit to 23-21 with 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
UD would punch right back by going 74 yards in ten plays to end with Zac Marker hitting Jake Thaw for their second touchdown connection of the day to push their team’s advantage to 30-21 with 6:48 left in the game.
Maine wouldn’t answer with a score of their own, instead, their quarterback Carter Peevy was intercepted by the Blue Hens linebacker Ty Davis on the third play of the drive, and Davis returned 34 yards for a touchdown to extend UD’s advantage to 37-21 with 5:16 remaining in the fourth.
Carter Peevy’s troubles continued on the Black Bears’ next possession, as on the first play of the drive he threw his third interception of the game. The Blue Hens defensive back KT Seay would return the pick 19 yards to Maine’s 43-yard line.
UD would not waste the turnover, as the team went 43 yards in eight plays to end with running back Quincy Watson rushing three yards for a touchdown to seal a 44-21 victory over Maine.
