The Wilmington University men’s soccer team earned their second victory of the season on Tuesday with a 4-3 win over the Holy Family University Tigers.
Wilmington University trails by one at the end of the first half.
The only goal of the opening period came from Holy Family a little after the 15-minute mark when Ever Maradiaga punched the ball into the net to give his team a 1-0 edge. Sergio Revuelta assisted on Maradiaga’s goal.
The Wildcats take home a 4-3 victory!
WilmU would light up the scoreboard for the first time in this match at the 48-minute mark when Graduate student forward Theo Faillon found his teammate, junior midfielder Alex Tarway, who rocketed the ball into the net to tie the score at one.
The Tigers regained the lead around the 51-minute mark when Deshawn Bernard hit a penalty kick to give his team a 2-1 advantage.
Almost ten minutes later, Holy Family expanded their lead to two goals (3-1) when Tajhay Williams found the net. Sergio Revuelta would get his second assist on the day by helping Williams on the goal.
The Wildcats started to claw back in this game at the 82-minute mark, where sophomore midfielder Demario McCarthy punched in a score to slice the deficit to 3-2. Theo Faillon earned his second assist on the night by helping McCarthy with the goal.
Five minutes later, Faillon scored a goal of his own to tie the game at three at the 87-minute mark. Redshirt freshman forward Jhamaleek Porter assisted on Faillon’s goal.
Faillon would blast the game-winning goal in the later minutes of this matchup to seal a 4-3 win over the Tigers. Junior midfielder Tsubasa Abe assisted on Faillon’s goal.
Stats and standouts:
The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were Jhamaleek Porter, Theo Faillon, Tsubasa Abe, Alex Tarway, Demario McCarthy, and sophomore goalkeeper Charlie Phillips.
Porter had four shots, two shots at the goal, and an assist in the win.
Faillon had six shots, two shots at the goal, two goals, and two assists in the victory.
Abe had one assist in the win.
Tarway had seven shots, three shots at the goal, and one goal in the victory.
McCarthy had one shot, one at the goal, and one goal in the game.
Phillips allowed three goals in 90 minutes and had two saves in the win.
