Evelyn Payne scores two goals in Wilmington University’s 3-1 win over Holy Family

The Wilmington University women’s soccer team earned their seventh victory of the season with a 3-1 win over the Holy Family University Tigers.

Game Recap:

Wilmington University leads by two goals at the end of the first half.

The Wildcats wouldn’t waste any time getting on the board in this matchup, as Redshirt sophomore Evelyn Payne found the net at the two-minute mark to give her team a 1-0 lead. Senior defender Brianna Wons assisted on Payne’s goal.

WilmU would push their lead to two (2-0) when Graduate forward Jordan Siok punched the ball into the net after the ten-minute mark. Wons earned her second assist on the night by helping Siok with the goal.

WilmU takes home a 3-1 victory!

Holy Family would get on the scoreboard for the first time in the match around the 48-minute mark when Allison Loper scored a goal to cut the deficit to 2-1.  Lexi Murphy and Rylee Kaufmann assisted Loper on the score.

The Wildcats would seal their win around the 65-minute mark when  Evelyn Payne pushed in her second goal of the night to get the score to 3-1.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were Evelyn Payne,  Brianna Wons, Jordan Siok, senior goalkeeper Mio Nakajima, and sophomore goalkeeper Arianna Myers.

Payne had five shots, two shots at the goal, and scored two goals in the win.

Siok had four shots, three shots at the goal, and one goal in the victory.

Wons had two assists in the win.

Nakajima allowed one goal and two saves in 45 minutes in the win.

Myers allowed zero goals and had three saves in 45 minutes in the game.
