Ruggeri’s big second half leads Wilmington University to a 2-1 win over Chestnut Hill

The Wilmington University women’s soccer team earned their third victory of the season on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over the Chestnut Hill College Griffins.

Wilmington University trails by one at the end of the opening half.

The first score of the game would come from the Griffins near the end of the opening period where Lauren Sullivan found the net for a score to give her team a 1-0 lead near the 39-minute mark. Rebecca Dalton assisted on Sullivan’s goal.

WilmU takes home a 2-1 victory!

Fast forward to the 62-minute mark, where Wilmington would light up the scoreboard for the first time in the match, as redshirt sophomore defender Maria Leguizamon found teammate senior forward Alyssa Ruggeri, who blasted in the goal to tie the game at one.

In the late minutes of the second half, Ruggeri would come up big once again, as she converted a penalty kick to give the Wildcats a 2-1 win over Chestnut Hill.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were Alyssa Ruggeri, redshirt sophomore defender Maria Leguizamon, senior goalkeeper Mio Nakajima, and sophomore goalkeeper Arianna Myers.

Ruggeri had five shots, four shots at the goal, and scored two goals in the win.

Leguizamon had one assist in the game.

Nakajima allowed zero goals in 45 minutes and had one save in the game.

Myers allowed one goal in 45 minutes and had two saves in the win.
