NCAA DII East Super Regional Champions!: Wilmington University advances to NCAA DII Softball Championships with over 12-0 win over Adelphi

The Wilmington University softball is heading the NCAA DII Softball Championships for the second straight year in a row, as they defeated the Adelphi University Panthers 12-0 on Wednesday to be crowned the NCAA DII East Super Regional Champions!

Game Recap:

Wilmington University leads by six runs at the end of the first inning. 

The Wildcats wasted no time taking the lead in this game, as the team posted six runs on five hits and two errors to give them a 6-0 edge in the top of the first inning.

Junior outfielder Gabriella Saucedo would start the scoring blitz by slapping a two-run single to right field to give her team a 2-0 lead.

Two plays later, senior outfielder Sara Miller would score on a wild pitch to push the team’s advantage to 3-0.

Graduate student infielder Sam Freeland came up to the plate next, as she knocked an RBI single to third base to push the score to 4-0.

Senior infielder Haley Downin would continue the scoring party by hitting an RBI double to center field to give her team a 5-0 lead.

Two plays later, senior infielder Julia Thuer would push in the last run of the inning with a Sac Fly to take the score to 6-0.

The Wildcats lead by nine runs at the end of the third inning.

WilmU would continue to widen their lead in the top of the third inning when junior catcher Emma Zimmerman pushed a run home with a Sac Bunt, and then Sam Freeland followed that up by scoring on a muffed throw. 

The scoring would conclude in the inning when Junior outfielder Tristyn Stewart would get the ninth run of the game home for her team with an RBI single to push Wilmington’s advantage to 9-0.

Wilmington University takes home a 12-0 victory!

WilmU would not slow down in the next inning, as Emma Zimmerman would record her second RBI of the day with a Sac Fly to center field to give her team a 10-0 edge in the fourth.

The Wildcats would add two more runs in the top of the fifth inning when senior infielder Bri Coyle and junior infielder Bella Barnes each recorded an RBI single to give the team a 12-0 advantage.

Pitching Recap:

 Redshirt sophomore starting pitcher Delani Sheehan had no problems with the Adelphi hitters in this victory, as she went five innings, gave up one hit, one walk, and struck out three hitters.
