The Wilmington University softball team won the first game of the best-of-three matchup versus the Adelphi University Panthers in the NCAA Division II Softball East Super Regional on Tuesday with a 3-0 victory. With one more win, WilmU will advance to the DII Softball Championships!

Wilmington University leads by one run at the end of the fifth inning.
Pitching would dominate in the first four innings of this East Super Regional as Adelphi’s Lindsey Hibbs and WilmU’s junior starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel would only give up a combined three hits with zero runs scoring during that time.
The Wildcats would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior infielder Haley Downin slugged a solo home run to left field to give her team a 1-0 edge.
The Wildcats take home a 3-0 victory!
WilmU would add two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when junior outfielder Gabriella Saucedo and junior catcher Emma Zimmerman each recorded an RBI Sac bunt to give their team a 3-0 advantage.
Pitching Recap:
Kylee Gunkel took care of the Adelphi hitters in this win, as she went seven innings, gave up five hits, one walk, and struck out three batters.
