NCAA Division II Softball East Regional:  Taylor Gillis hits a three-run homer in Wilmington University’s 10-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas

The Wilmington University softball is advancing in the NCAA Division II Softball East Regional tournament after the team beat the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans 10-0 on Thursday. The Wildcats play Assumption on Friday at 10 am ET.

Game Recap:

Wilmington University holds a three-run lead after two innings.

The Wildcats would strike first in this NCAA II tournament matchup, as senior right fielder Sara Miller would push in a run with a Sac Fly to give her team a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the opening inning.

WilmU would widen their lead in the second inning when senior infielder Haley Downin and junior outfielder Taylor Gillis each recorded an RBI double to put the score at 3-0.

The Wildcats lead by five runs at the end of the third inning.

Wilmington would continue to pour on the runs in the third inning, as Junior outfielder Gabriella Saucedo would slap an RBI double to left field, and junior catcher Emma Zimmerman would push home a run with a Sac bunt to take the score to 5-0.

Wilmington University takes home a 10-0 victory!

WilmU would post five more runs two innings later to take their lead to 10-0 in the fifth inning.

Emma Zimmerman would push in the first run of the inning with her second Sac bunt of the day to give her team a 6-0 edge.

Two batters later, senior first baseman Julia Thuer would push in a run with a Sac Fly to center field to push the score to 7-0.

 Taylor Gillis would end the game with a bang as she slugged a three-run homer to give her team a 10-0 victory over the Spartans.

Pitching Recap:

Redshirt sophomore starting pitcher Delani Sheehan had no problem with the St. Thomas Aquinas hitters in this victory, as she went five innings, gave up two hits, and struck two batters out.
