Wilmington University baseball picks up a sweep over Caldwell

The Wilmington University baseball team picked up two wins on Sunday as the team swept the Caldwell University Cougars 4-2 (Game One) and 13-11 (Game Two).

Game Recap:

Wilmington University trails by one run at the end of the first inning.

Caldwell would get on the board first in this game, as a WilmU throwing error helped send a baserunner home to give the team a 1-0 edge in the top of the opening inning.

WilmU ties the game up at one at the end of the second inning.

The Wildcats would tie the game up at one in the bottom of the second inning when sophomore infielder Tyler Pirrung knocked an RBI double to left center.

The Wildcats lead by one run after the end of the fifth inning.

The Cougars would regain the lead (2-1) in the top of the third thanks to a Wilmington fielding error that allowed Michael Cruz to score.

Two innings later, WilmU would grab a one-run lead (3-2) as the team scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Senior outfielder CJ Deery would score the first run in the inning when he was able to go on a wild pitch to tie the game at two.

The next run would come when Senior catcher Jack McDonald got caught stealing second, but senior shortstop Matt Warrington would score to give his team a 3-2 edge.

Wilmington Univeristy takes home a 4-2 win!

WilmU would add one more run to their advantage in the bottom of the sixth inning when junior outfielder Kory Pritchard pushed in a run with a Sac Fly to left field to take the score to 4-2.

Pitching Recap:

Freshman starting pitcher Xavier Cortez went five innings, gave up six hits, two runs, one earned run, two walks, and struck out three batters in the victory.

Senior pitcher Justin Barcoski relieved Cortez, as he went one inning in the game.

Senior pitcher Dom Grady closed out that game, as he went one inning and earned the save.
