Wilmington University picks up a sweep versus Jefferson

Wilmington University trails by two runs at the end of the first inning.

Jefferson would get on the board first in the second game of the doubleheader as Rozalee Negron would hit an RBI double to left field, and then four plays later, she would score on a wild pitch to give her team a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the opening inning.

WilmU takes a two-run lead at the end of the second inning.

Wilmington would answer back in the top of the second inning, where the team scored four runs on four hits and one error to grab a 4-2 lead.

Senior first baseman Julia Thuer would push in the first run of the inning with a Sac fly to right field to take the score to 2-1.

Sophomore catcher Rylee Maloney would step up to the plate next and slapped an RBI single to left-center to tie the score at two.

Three batters later, junior infielder Eve Serrato would knock a two-run double up the middle to give her team a 4-2 advantage.

Wilmington University takes home a 5-2 win!

The Wildcats would add one last run in the top of the third inning when Julia Thuer reached first base on an error after doing a Sac bunt, but a runner would go home during that time to take the score to 5-2.

Pitching Recap:

Sophomore starting pitcher Brooke Koehler went 0.1 innings and gave up two hits, two runs, two earned runs, and one walk.

The bullpen consisted of two relievers, who combined to give up three hits and struck out six batters.

Junior pitcher Kylee Gunkel closed out the game by pitching five innings, giving up two hits, striking out five batters, and earning the win.
