Goldey-Beacom blast 31 runs in Game Two to earn a split over Holy Family

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team picked up a split on Saturday versus the Holy Family University Tigers with a 5-3 loss and a 31-6 triumph.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom leads by five runs at the end of the first inning.

The Lightning would start this game off with a bang, as the team scored six runs on five hits to take a 6-0 lead in the top of the opening inning.

Sophomore outfielder Anthony Charles and Junior catcher Calen Kampes would deliver the biggest blows of the inning, as Charles smoked a three-run homer to right field, and Kampes had a solo blast to center field.

Holy Family would slice the deficit a little in the bottom of the inning by scoring off an RBI single to put the score at 6-1.

The Lightning’s lead grows to ten at the end of the second inning.

Goldey-Beacom would continue to expand their advantage in the second inning, as the team scored five runs on four hits and one error to take an 11-1 edge.

One of the scoring highlights in the inning came when Calen Kampes recorded his third RBI of the game with a two-run triple to right field.

GBC holds a nine-run lead at the end of the third inning.

There was no stopping the Lightning offense in this game, as Anthony Charles recorded his fourth RBI of the game when he slapped a double to right field to extend the score to 12-1.

The Tigers would try to claw back in this game in the bottom of the inning, as a two-run homer would put the score at 12-3.

Goldey-Beacom still holds a nine-run lead at the end of the fourth inning.

The scoring party would continue for GBC in the top of the fourth inning when Senior infielder Darin Miller slugged a three-run homer to left center to give his team a 15-3 edge.

Holy Family would get three runs (15-6) on the board in the bottom of the inning from an error from Goldey’s catcher, an RBI single, and a wild pitch.

The Lightning takes a 12-run lead at the end of the fifth inning.

GBC’s bats would continue to be on fire as the team scored three runs on two hits to push their advantage to 18-6.

Junior outfielder Christian Petrillo started off the scoring in the inning with a two-run triple, and then Junior infielder Braden Kolmansberger came up to the plate next and hit an RBI double to right center to give their team an 18-6 lead.

Goldey-Beacom takes home a 31-6 victory!

There was no stopping the Lightning bats, as the team plated two more runs in the sixth to take a 20-6 edge.

In the last inning, Goldey’s bats really exploded as the team scored 11 runs on seven hits to take a 31-6 lead.

Pitching Recap:

Junior pitcher Tommy Federici went two innings, gave up one hit, one run, five walks, struck two batters out, and earned the win.

The bullpen consisted of three relievers, who combined to give up five hits, five runs, earned runs, four walks, hit one batter, and struck out three batters.
