The Wilmington University softball picked up a split on Saturday versus the Caldwell University Cougars 11-4 (Game One) and 5-3 (Game Two).

Wilmington University trails by one run at the end of the first inning.
The Wildcats would strike first in this game as Senior outfielder Sara Miller hit an RBI double to left field to give her team a 1-0 edge in the top of the opening inning.
WilmU’s lead would not last long, as Caldwell would score two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 advantage.
The Wildcats take a two-run lead at the end of the second inning.
Wilmington would respond in the top of the second inning when the team scored two runs on two hits and two errors to take a 3-2 lead.
Junior catcher Emma Zimmerman would have a big inning as she first slapped an RBI double to left center and then two plays later would score on a throwing error.
WilmU’s lead would disappear as the game would be tied at four at the end of the third.
WilmU would add another run to their lead in the top of the third when Graduate student infielder Sam Freeland pushed a runner home on a fielder’s choice to give her team a 4-2 advantage.
The Wildcats’ lead would be zapped away in the bottom of the inning when Riley Riendeau smoked a two-run homer out of the ballpark to tie the game at four.
Wilmington University takes a four-lead at the end of the fourth inning.
WilmU would grab a four lead (8-4) at the top of the fourth inning with RBI singles from senior infielder Lexi Moore and Sam Freeland and a two-run homer from junior outfielder Gabriella Saucedo.
WilmU takes home an 11-4 win!
The Wildcats would widen their lead in the top of the fifth inning, as the team scored three runs on three hits and two errors to take an 11-4 lead.
Lexi Moore and Gabriella Saucedo would each record an RBI single in the inning, and Sara Miller would push home a run when she reached first base on a throwing error.
Pitching Recap:
Junior starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went 2.2 innings, gave up nine hits, four runs, four earned runs, struck out one batter, and one home run in a victory.
Sophomore pitcher Brooke Koehler closed out the game, as she went 4.1 innings, gave up two hits, two walks, and struck three batters.
