Wilmington University baseball sweeps Bridgeport

Wilmington University takes a four-lead in the first inning. 

The Wildcats would come out strong in the top of the first inning of the second game of the doubleheader, as the team scored four runs on two errors.

Brandon Grygo would score the first run of the game when he went home on an error from Bridgeport to give his team a 1-0 lead.

On the next play, a double steal would occur as Jack McDonald would grab second, and Tyler Pirrung stole home to give his team a 2-0 edge.

Freshman shortstop Garrett Quinn would push in the next run when he grounded out to push the score to 3-0.

Chase Fleming would score the last run of the inning as he arrived at home base on a wild pitch to extend the Cats lead to 4-0.

The Wildcats take a 12-0 lead in the fourth inning.

WilmU blew open their lead in the top of the fourth inning when the team scored eight runs on five hits to take a 12-0 advantage.

The highlights of the scoring in the fourth came when junior outfielder Kory Pritchard hit a three-run double to right field, and Brandon Grygo also slapped a three-run triple to center field later in the inning.

WilmU leads by 14 runs at the end of the fifth inning.

The Wildcats would add two more runs to their lead in the top of the fifth when Junior infielder Tristan Schoendienst pushed in a baserunner on a Sac fly, and junior outfielder Trevor Adamo knocked a RBI double to left center to give their team a 14-0 edge.

Wilmington University takes home a 19-0 win!

WilmU would widen their lead even more in the top of the seventh when they scored five runs on four hits and two errors to take a 19-0 advantage.

One of the highlights of the inning came when junior infielder Zach Walker slapped a two-run double down the left-field line.

Pitching Recap:

Sophomore pitcher Steve Schenning dominated the Bridgeport hitters in the win, as he went five innings, gave up one hit, two walks, and struck out eight batters.

The bullpen consisted of three relievers, who combined to give up one hit, and one walk and struck out three batters.
