The Wilmington University softball team earned a split versus the West Chester University Golden Rams on Tuesday with a 9-1 win in Game One, and a 2-1 loss in the second match.

Wilmington University takes a one-run lead in the third inning.
It would take three innings before the first run would score in this game, but senior first baseman Julia Thuer would slap a single up the middle to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the third.
The Wildcats lead by six runs at the end of the fifth inning.
WilmU would widen their lead two innings later, as the team scored five runs on three hits to take a 6-0 advantage.
Junior outfielder Taylor Gillis would get the scoring started in the inning as she knocked a two-out, three-run double to left field to give her team a 4-0 edge.
Senior outfielder Sara Miller would step up to the plate next, as she would smoke a two-run homer to center field to push the Wildcats lead to 6-0.
Wilmington University takes home a 9-1 victory!
The Wildcats would continue to expand their lead in the top of the seventh inning, as the team scored three runs on two hits to take a 9-0 advantage.
Taylor Gillis would send the first runner of the inning home when she grounded out to the pitcher to give her team a 7-0 edge.
Sara Miller would walk up to the plate next, and she hit her second two-run homer of the day to push the score to 9-1.
West Chester would score their first run of the game in the bottom of the inning, but WilmU would still win 9-1.
Pitching Recap:
Junior starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went 2.1 innings, gave up one hit, and one walk, and struck out two batters.
Sophomore pitcher Brooke Koehler closed out the game by going 4.2 innings, giving up one run, one earned run, four walks, struck out one batter, and earned the win.
