Wilmington University pushes winning streak to 16 with sweep over Molloy

The Wilmington University softball pushed their winning streak to 16 games, as the team swept the Molloy University Lions on Sunday.

Game Recap:

Wilmington University leads by two runs at the end of the first inning.

The Wildcats would strike first in this game, as graduate student infielder Sam Freeland and junior outfielder Taylor Gillis each recorded an RBI single in the bottom of the opening inning to give their team a 2-0 lead.

WilmU hangs on to a one-run lead at the end of the second inning.

Molloy would respond in the top of the second inning by three of the five first batters blasting three singles to load the bases for Alex Burns, who got a runner home when she was issued a walk to take the score to 2-1.

Wilmington University takes home a 3-1 victory!

It would take four more innings before WilmU would get a run back on the scoreboard. Sam Freeland would record her second RBI of the game in the bottom of the fifth when she slapped a single to left field to give her team a 3-1 lead.

Pitching Recap:

Junior starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went seven innings, gave up seven hits, one run, one earned run, two walks, struck out five batters, and earned the win.
